Did you know that insulin was first discovered in the 1920s? Insulin is a hormone that’s produced by beta cells inside the pancreas. And every time you eat, these cells release insulin into the bloodstream. There, the insulin takes the blood sugar the body gets from food and delivers that sugar to cells around the body to use for energy, or stores it in the liver until the body needs it.
